Our Charism

Our charism within the church is Hospitality a gift of the Holy Spirit, which leads us to conform ourselves to the Compassionate and Merciful Christ of the Gospel, who went about doing good to all and “healing all kinds of diseases and infirmity”. (Const. 2a).

Our Spirituality

Our hospitaller community receives its life from the Eucharist. We participate in it actively each day. It forms the irreplaceable and life-giving dimension of our life. In it we exercise our hospitaller priesthood in a special way, presenting the pain and hope of those we serve and dedicate our existence. (Const.30).

Our Model

The Virgin Mary is for us a Model of consecration by excellence because in accepting her Divine Mission, She consecrated herself totally to the person and mission of Jesus. We call on Her assistance on us through the prayer of the Holy Rosary daily.

The Core values of the Bothers of Saint John of God

  • Hospitality: This is the opening of Doors, Hearts and their time. Especially to those who are hurting, poor, sick or different from them regardless if they’re worthy or what they can give in return. What matters is how you receive them. A hospital can treat a diseases but Hospitality treats the person. And Saint John Of God used to say “He saw JESUS in every sick person he watched and fed”

  • Quality:  Quality is to do things and do it well not to do things half-way. That is giving your best in service. Professional excellence + Human warmth.
  • Respect: Treating every person with dignity, normatter their condition, background, religion, or wealth. He called patients ” My lords” even when society called them outcast
  • Responsibility: Being accountable. Taking ownership of the needs around you instead of walking away. He sold everything he had to open his first hospital.
  • Spirituality: Living service as prayer. Recognizing that caring for others is caring for God. His whole life was rooted in prayer, humanity and love of God
  • NB: Saint john of God values = Love in action: Welcome everyone, feel their pain, respect their dignity, do it excellently, take responsibility, and do it all for God. That’s why today the brothers run hospitals, Mental health centers and Social services in over 50 countries all based on these 5 values.
